COP 03 / Primary Research / The Parish

The Parish in York is a pub which is established in a reformed church building. Upon walking past, I initially assumed it was just a church until I saw the signage. The word 'Parish' directly relates back to religion, defining as a small administrative district typically having its own church and a priest or pastor. The reasonings for the name are most likely related to the building type, much like The Church in Leeds. Since the building is less likely to change, the company probably sees the situation as a conceptual business move, tying together a concise image for their brand.

However, is this move utilising religion to promote a brand?

The Parish's logotype however contrasts with the traditional style of the building, in that it has an electronic, futuristic appearance. The letterforms are curved and inviting, which is appropriate for the purpose and audience. The image of alcohol ties in conceptually as it is a place to consume alcohol, however this dates the promotion. Although this could be the target demographic, the club seems to be aimed more at middle aged adults because of the overall composition and use of imagery, when compared to The Church in Leeds for example, as their branding is more clean and current.
